Lip augmentation creates fuller, plumper lips and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. We like to create lips that are more full but also natural. This is done by respecting the five anatomic subunits of the lips.
There are several types of 'fillers' that can be used for lip augmentation. The traditional bovine (cow) collagen Zyplast/Zyderm treatment is used seldomly. Our most common injectable is Restylane. Restylane is a clear gel that is unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. The soft, moldable gel gives smoother results. Results typically last about 6 months. The most commonly treated areas include the lips and nasolabial folds (the crease going from the nose to the jawline).
Lips and nasolabial folds may also be augmented with fat transferred from another site in the patient’s body. Typically, about 30-50% of the fat will survive long-term. Autologous fat grafting provides a very soft and natural feeling result.
We do not recommend Gortex or silicone injections.
