Community Involvement
T Birds
Dr. Ronan is an active coach with the San Ramon Valley Thunderbirds football program. He has been a Jr Pee Wee coach since 2009.
The T Birds are one of the strongest programs in one of state’s best youth football leagues. The kids are primarily drawn from Danville, Blackhawk, Alamo, Diablo and San Ramon. There are 18 other teams in the league. All players and parents are required to sign a “Code of Conduct” which serves the purpose of outlining requirements and expectations of the T-Birds. Players must maintain a minimum grade-point average and are encouraged to strive to obtain various “Scholar Athlete” awards set forth by the T-Birds and the conference. The T Birds program has historically developed players for the Monte Vista, San Ramon Valley and De La Salle high schools.
Dr. Ronan is the Offensive and Defensive line coach. He loves the line ‘because that is where the game is won’ and the tremendous espirit de corps. He enjoys taking kids who are new to football and teaching them stepwise to become aggressive and confident players. Dr. Ronan learned the line from his St Vincent High School coach, Jim Koniaris. Jim was in the SFPD and a contemporary of Dr. Ronan’s father from the SFFD (both unfortunately deceased). Jim taught Dr. Ronan the Dirty Rotten Mean and Nasty attitude of linemen on the field while maintaining excellent sportsmanship.
Each of Dr. Ronan’s teams have gone to the Turkey Bowl (Championship) and one has gone on to compete in the Northern California Championship. Please feel free to check out the T Birds website for more information or the next game! T Bird pride!
